This was such a cute story! Daniel Barrett first appeared in A Worthy Pursuit. He was such a strong character, it was great to see him get his own story and what a story it is!

Daniel, aka Dead-Eye Dan, has left bounty hunting behind. He's worked for Jonah Hawkins for three years, until he can save enough to buy some land and start his own business. He's attracted to Marietta Hawkins, but her father has a no involvement policy when it comes to his ranch hands and his daughter. She's attracted to Dan,so when she finds out his time is up at Hawk's Haven ranch she sets in motion a plan, The Husband Maneuver, to get his attention before he leaves.

I loved Dan and Etta's story. It's a novella, and a short one at that, but it wasn't rushed and felt complete. Their feelings for each other were totally believable. Karen Witemeyer does a terrific job telling the story of Dead-Eye Dan, of dime store novel fame, at the beginning of each chapter, then bringing it forward so smoothly to the story of Dan and Etta. There were funny, touching and tender moments. A reader can't ask for more and Witemeyer delivers. An enjoyable read!

I enjoyed this story set in the 1890's. It was very interesting how a book was used and resembled the characters in the novella.
And here I thought that it couldn't get any better than "A Worthy Pursuit"... I was dead wrong. Excellent novella. I thoroughly enjoyed Dan and Marietta's story. Karen Witemeyer certainly doesn't disappoint! A must read follow up to " A Worthy Pursuit"!
Too short for my liking but a phenomenal book none the less a good quick read if you don't want to get sucked into to much time. I absolutely adore Witemeyers books! They always leave you impatiently waiting for the next one or rereading one you already have because you can not take the waiting.
I know I can enjoy a book by Karen Witemeyer. She has the talent of writing exciting love stories that always leaves me with a great feeling when I'm done. I have followed her books from the first time I started reading Christian fiction and my only complaint is that the books are too short. I could read much more, especially this story.
Marietta is in love with Daniel, her father's foreman. She's pretty certain he's interested in her too, but he's never spoken a word about it to her. She knew her father had forbidden any of his ranch hands from showing any romantic interest in his daughter or they would be fired. Marietta tries to take matters into her own hands, but Daniel promised her father he'd abide by his rules. Daniel is not a man to go back on a promise.

This is a fun read. I enjoy this author. She writes great characters and great stories.
Wow, it seemed like I was done with this book right after I started it. It is a fast read and what a tricky woman Marietta thinks she is, he dad didn't think so though! Yes, I had to read this before I could even do the review for A Worthy Pursuit, lol. You can also get a 'copy' of this story in the book, With This Ring?, an omnibus of novels with three other great authors and the stories they wrote! Another great book by Karen that I can recommend. (I read this as a stand alone book on my , not in the omnibus.)!
I love this author's books and thought this one was a lot of fun. I felt sorry for Dan because he made the pledge to Etta's father to leave her alone.I liked that he was a hard worker and had a good sense of humor. I liked Etta and how hard she tried to get Dan's attention. The quotes from dime novels at the beginning of each chapter were a nice touch. I liked the way the story turned out and enjoyed reading the preview of the next book--can't wait to read that one.
