I loved the fact that all the writers had different stories to tell and allowed the readers to see things from different perspectives. Each soldier had a different reason for coming in and held to their values. The stories allow you to see their different levels of resiliency.
Excellent stories of courage and perseverance from our nation's finest service members! Their personal experiences and ability to overcome setbacks were truly inspiring.
Before reading this book, my only reference for women in the military was Hollywood’s viewpoint in movies like Private Benjamin. In reality, the journey of women soldiers is complex, frustrating, beautiful, heartbreaking, and even humorous at times.
Before reading this book, I thought that women in the military were somehow different than civilian women like me. They were braver, stronger, fitter and more "hard core" than women who did not choose a military path. Turns out, not only do women in the military struggle with many of the same issues as any woman discovering who she is and who she wants to become, they do it in an environment that in many ways is set up to discourage them with hierarchy, harassment and red tape.
These six women veterans reveal the inner workings of life in the military and what it’s like to be a woman in a male-dominated world. They offer valuable insights into overcoming adversity, making difficult decisions, and maintaining one’s dignity in impossible situations.
Reading this book made me marvel at the resilience and mental fortitude of our female military service members. Their stories must be told, and these six remarkable women tell them with heart, compassion and a resilience that made me laugh, cry and feel a part of their incredible sisterhood.
Everyone can benefit from the lessons these women learned and courageously share!
