I enjoyed this book. I thought it was well written and although its about motorcycle racing there was more to it then that, which I thought was great. Carter and Molly's relationship started pretty quickly almost too quickly for me, Carter was a little too strong and confident a little put off-ish for me but then I changed my stance on him because he's caring, sweet and protective of Molly, he wants whats best for her and to protect her and they are in love. Brody Molly's brother is very intense and protective of Molly sometimes too much almost a total jerk but love the banter between them. This story has some mystery, love and intrigue all in one. I thought the story over all was good, look forward to reading the next in this series thought though there were a lot of characters in such a short period of time to remember. But felt it was a feel good story with new love and experiences. 4 stars review by Nanee at upallnightreadallday.blogspot.comTags : Racing to Love - Carter's Treasure (Volume 1) [Amy Gregory] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Amy Gregory is a new author to me. While I enjoy finding new authors and books, it is always a risk as to whether it will be worth the time and money spent. I have been lucky with a lot of the new authors that I have read lately and my luck still holds true with Amy Gregory.
I really enjoyed Racing to Love. It was such a sweet read with romance, a little suspense, laughter and of course some sexy touching love scenes.
I just loved Carter and how caring, protective and supportive he was with Molly. Molly was the perfect mix of sweet, sassy and vulnerable. They were a perfect match right from the beginning.
It is so nice to read a book where the H/h fell in love at first sight without all the angst and fighting that normally happens between couples as they work their way towards falling in love.
Great set of secondary characters that added so much to the story. I loved Brody and Erin. Oh, and I hope that Mike, Eli and Jesse will get their own books.
Just a really sweet and enjoyable read and I will definitely be looking for more from this author. 4 out of 5 rating.
I picked up this book in anticipation of reading its sequel for an upcoming book tour. Each book can stand on its own, but I do enjoy checking out an entire series in order when possible. I like the motocross as the background story, for an interesting change.
I enjoyed it as a quick romantic read with a little bit of mystery thrown into it. The relationship between Molly and Carter does reach an intense level at a very quick pace that feels almost unrealistic. I'm not sure how often people who have just met and feel that level of attraction will actually touch each other so much. I do think it is possible to innately trust someone right off the bat, as Molly does Carter. With the horrors in her past, which are slowly revealed throughout the book, these feelings of trust have even more significance.
I admit that I hated how Carter calls Molly "Gorgeous" all of the time. That seemed to calm down as the book went on. I know the goal was to emphasize her low self-esteem.
Molly's brother, Brody, is a serious pain who has some anger issues. As the past is revealed, you begin to understand why he is so over-protective of his little sister. At the same time, you do still want to throttle him for being such a jerk.
To me, the final message of the novel was that love can triumph all and help you overcome any difficulties in your past. It leaves you with a warm and fuzzy feeling.
I have struggled with what to say about this book. I think this author has a lot of potential and I loved her basic premise for this book. I like mixing girls in sports that are strong in their field with romance. I really liked all the characters and am soooo thankful for a male hero who isn't an obnoxious jerk like so many in romances.
There are a couple of things that were a struggle for me. We are introduced to a LOT of characters nearly all at once and it took a while for me to get them all straight. Added to this, these characters are also referred to by their last names at times and it made it confusing until I was fairly far along getting them all straight. I was at a book convention with my son last spring and in one of the author's panels it talked about naming characters and how to avoid confusion between characters for your reader. Names that sound alike or start with the same letter (like in this book with Jessie and I think it was Joel) often result in readers confusing the characters. I have to confess that this did happen in this book with the two J guys until I was about half way through. I understand that this book sets up a series but it is kind of overwhelming when you first start the book. Luckily the characters came together eventually.
I also struggled a little with Carter right at first. He comes off quiet strong and intent towards the heroine. It felt a little overwhelming until they were actually a couple. If you are not a fan of insta-love then keep in mind that this book does have it. Everything happens really quickly. I can deal with that as these books are fiction and I do think love can happen fairly quickly in certain scenarios but I know a lot of people are turned off by that. Also, I am not a fan of nicknames and everyone uses them in this book. Again, that's a personal preference. The nickname "Gorgeous" by Carter shortly after he meets Molly came off as him sounding like a player to me when he is anything but. I had to get around this in the story. It's a minor thing, and again it's a personal preference.
But I really do like Carter as a Hero. I am so glad that he is not a jealous, possessive jerk. He also isn't one to jump into a fight over nothing. He respects Molly and truly wants to do right by her. He is gentle and caring and other than wanting to move their relationship emotionally quickly he never pushes things in a physical sense- happy to wait until Molly is ready for the next step. I mention these things because I have read so many other romances who push off these jerks as heros and I was really happy to read about a hero like Carter. I wish there were more like that.
I did not understand the intensity of Brody's response to Carter or Carter's relationship with Molly. It bothered me that Brody treated Molly like a child and felt so possessive of her. It bordered on creepy, but since he wasn't the love interest and there was at least some back story for it, I accepted it. Still, he didn't endear himself to me and I never did fully understand his response. It felt more like a possessive lover than a brotherly vibe and I think that is part of what bothered me so much.
As is typical in (what I think is) a first novel for an author, there is a lot of adjectives instead of descriptive writing. I know that bothers some people but I have read enough first novels by authors to know this is pretty common. It isn't my preference but I still think the basic story and romance was good enough that I enjoyed reading it and will likely pick up another novel by this author in the future. I expect that as her writing progresses that this author will get stronger and stronger.
